The Ghana Black Stars hitherto perennial underchievers on the World stage (senior national team), burst onto the world stage in 2006 with a relatively young team; built around arguably the best midfield in the world; Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Stephen Appiah. These young dudes took the world by storm beating two team from the worlds top ten teams ; Czech and USA to qualify to the next stage; the only African team to do so.
Unfortunately for the Ghanaian team the main inspirer and the engine room of the Ghanaian side was suspended from a "dream" match up between Ghana (the Brazil of Africa) and the original Brazil team.
The Brazilians of Africa, flattered to deceive,doing better in all departments; possessing better that the Brazilians, passing better, dribbling better, but failing to score. The Brazilians led by the legendary Ronaldo punished Ghana 3 times to end the match at 3 - 0
Ghana's maiden tourney inspite of this was covered in Glory, exiting as the most shining star for Africa.
Fast forward to 2010, The Ghana Blackstars is the youngest team in the tournament, they are the only African team leading their group, the only african team with a win (until SA whupped France)
In both tourneys, youthfulness prevailed for Ghana, the best players from Ghana's side; Dede Ayew - 20 yrs; Kevin Prince Boateng - 22yrs;
A case for the youth?
